US Diesel Prices Hit Record High Amid Ongoing Middle East Conflicts
Oil prices continue to rise globally due to ongoing conflicts in Iran and Ukraine, pushing US diesel prices to record highs. The conflict between the US and Iran has now entered its seventh month, with military exchanges resuming recently.
Average US diesel prices have reached new records as supply disruptions persist. Claudio Galimberti, chief economist at Rystad Energy, attributed this increase in fuel prices to the expectation of continued inflation. He stated that 'all sectors of the economy are affected by diesel... it's one of the reasons why the government bond yields in the United States are so high, it's the expectation that inflation will continue to go up.'
Analysts and tanker trackers indicate that oil flows remain disrupted despite the US government claiming Middle Eastern oil flows have returned to near normal levels. Brent crude futures were down 14 cents or 0.15% on the day at $95.38 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures CLc1 were down 37 cents, or 0.41%, at $90.93.
