US Dollar Strength Drives Gold Prices Down Amid Iran Tensions
Gold prices have fallen to their lowest level in over three weeks due to a stronger US dollar. The price of spot gold reached $4,330.79 an ounce on Wednesday, its lowest point since August 7. U.S. gold futures for December delivery dropped 0.4% to $4,377.90.
Nikos Tzabouras, a senior market analyst at Tradu.com, attributed the decline in gold prices to lingering geopolitical uncertainty that is pushing oil prices higher and sustaining inflationary risks. This, in turn, has put pressure on the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates, boosting the dollar and making it more expensive for buyers holding other currencies.
The tensions between the US and Iran have increased, with Washington threatening even more devastating strikes, which has pushed oil prices to their highest level in about a month. Concerns about the economic impact of the energy shock have sent investors towards the US dollar, lifting it to a two-week high.
