US Dominates Global Crude Oil Production, but Middle East Remains Biggest Hub
The United States surpassed Russia in 2018 and became the world's largest crude oil producer in 2023, producing over 13.58 million barrels per day (mb/d) in 2025.
This represents a 16% share of global production and a significant milestone for the U.S. energy sector.
The country's dominance is largely driven by its vast oil reserves in the Permian Basin, as well as deposits in Alaska and the Gulf of Mexico.
The Middle East remains the world's biggest oil hub, with five countries ranking among the top 10 producers: Saudi Arabia (9.51 mb/d), Iraq (4.39), Iran (4.19), the United Arab Emirates (3.82), and Kuwait (2.58).
