US Energy Firms REPX, VNOM, WKC Soar as Crude Prices Climb Amid Middle East Tensions
Riley Exploration Permian (REPX) and Viper Energy (VNOM) are two US-based companies in the spotlight as crude oil prices rise due to Middle East tensions. Both firms have a strong presence in the Permian Basin, with REPX focusing on exploration and production activities and VNOM acquiring oil and natural gas properties for royalty interests.
While both companies offer exposure to the growing demand for oil, they cater to different investor needs. REPX provides a more direct play on crude prices, whereas VNOM offers a pure-play on Permian Basin oil development through its royalty model.
Viper Energy's market value of around $15.2 billion places it firmly in the large-cap bracket, giving investors a significant stake in the US energy sector. However, this also means that investors are exposed to risks such as dependence on third-party operators and the need to digest large acquisitions like Sitio Royalties.
Meanwhile, World Kinect (WKC), a global energy management company, offers diversified exposure to fuel markets through its supply of aviation fuel, marine fuel, and land-based fuels. With revenue coming from various sectors such as Aviation, Land, and Marine, WKC's business model is more resilient to fluctuations in crude prices.
However, World Kinect's thin margins, current losses, and reliance on external borrowing raise concerns about its ability to withstand market volatility. Investors are also waiting to see whether the company's cost-cutting measures and digitization efforts will translate into improved earnings and cash flow.
