US Energy Stocks Struggle Amid Inflation and War-Driven Price Shock
The US energy sector is facing significant challenges due to inflation above 3%, expensive fuel, and the ongoing war-driven energy shock. This has led to a shift in which U.S. stocks carry the most risk and potential resilience. Energy producers and infrastructure players are particularly exposed.
Three U.S. energy stocks have emerged as notable examples: Big Sky Industrial (BSIN), Sable Offshore (SOC), and Prairie Operating (PROP). These companies operate in key U.S. basins, including the Rockies, Texas, Oklahoma, and the Gulf Coast.
Big Sky Industrial is an independent energy company that acquires, explores, and develops industrial gas, oil, and natural gas assets. It has a market cap of US$75 million and is building a specialist industrial gas and carbon management business. The company's Kevin Dome industrial gas hub is gaining attention due to helium supply constraints and federal 45Q tax credits supporting carbon projects.
However, Big Sky Industrial is still loss-making, has a short cash runway, and relies on shareholder dilution, making execution risk high.
