US Farmers Plant Record Corn and Soybean Acreage
US farmers have planted a record amount of corn and soybeans in the 2026/27 season, according to data from the USDA. The combined planted acreage of the two crops reached 183.5 million acres, surpassing the previous record by more than 3 million acres. This is reflected in the recent Crop Production and World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE) report from the USDA, which found an additional 1.4 million planted acres for both corn and soybeans.
The increased planting of these crops has boosted the soybean crop to the largest in U.S. history, while the corn crop has seen a slight increase. While the USDA did not provide specifics on the reasons behind the higher planting, it is likely that data collected by the Farm Service and Risk Management agencies showed farmers planted more of both crops than initially forecasted.
