US Forces Assist 1,000 Vessels Through Strait of Hormuz Amid Iran Sanctions
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) has announced that American forces have assisted around 1,000 vessels and 500 million barrels of crude oil in passing through the Strait of Hormuz since early May.
CENTCOM stated this in response to claims by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) that international mariners should only use routes preferred by the Iranian force.
The US military said the IRGC has recently threatened and attempted to attack commercial vessels and mariners transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
Meanwhile, the US Treasury Department sanctioned eight oil tankers and 10 companies for helping Iran transport and sell crude oil in violation of American sanctions.
