US Gains Control of Strait of Hormuz as Iran's Grip Fades
The Strait of Hormuz has become a focal point in the ongoing Iran war, with both sides claiming control. However, recent data suggests that the US is gaining ground and Iran is losing its grip on the critical waterway.
According to Kpler, which tracks ships using transponders and satellite data, more than 80% of liquid transit through the strait over the past two weeks have taken the Omani route or been 'dark' transits that likely took the same route. This is a significant shift from a month ago, when virtually no shipping traffic was seen via the Omani route.
Homayoun Falakshahi, head of crude oil analysis at Kpler, stated, 'It increasingly looks like Iran has at least partially lost control of the strait.'
The US Navy is patrolling the strait and providing protection to ships that choose to cross it via the Omani route. Despite Iran's attacks on dozens of ships, most have recently ignored its demands and crossed the strait with the promise of US naval protection.
