US Gas Prices Above $4 as Venezuela Oil Agreement Offers Potential Relief
The average price of regular gasoline in the United States has remained above $4 per gallon for months, leaving motorists paying significantly more than they did at the beginning of 2026.
Despite a recent decline from their late-spring highs, prices have not fallen substantially over the past month, but they have decreased by around 8% compared to three months ago and are roughly 34 cents per gallon cheaper than in May.
The six-month comparison shows that gasoline prices have increased dramatically during this period. In February, the national average was $2.983 per gallon, but it has risen to approximately $4.08 today.
This increase is largely attributed to higher crude oil prices and the ongoing conflict involving Iran, which has resulted in significant disruptions in global petroleum markets.
