US Gas Prices Hit Record Highs on Labor Day

U.S. drivers are paying record-breaking prices to fill up their vehicles this Labor Day, according to the American Automobile Association (AAA). The national average for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline reached $4.15 on Monday, marking the highest price ever recorded for the holiday.

The previous record of $3.82 was set on September 3, 2012. AAA spokesperson Brittany Moye said that 'while gasoline demand typically declines after the summer driving season - often leading to lower prices - this year's elevated crude oil costs have offset that seasonal trend.'

The price for diesel also hit a record, reaching $5.90 per gallon on Monday, up from $3.71 a year ago.
