US Grains Council Drives 365% Surge in Corn Exports to Maghreb Region
The US Grains & BioProducts Council has made significant strides in boosting corn exports to the Maghreb region over the past 25 years. The Council's sustained engagement with government agencies, industry associations, and research institutions in Morocco, Tunisia, and Algeria has led to a notable increase in U.S. corn imports.
Morocco stands out as one of Africa's strongest markets for U.S. corn, importing 807 TMT (tons) of U.S. corn in the 2024/25 crop year. The Council's efforts have also driven growth in Morocco's poultry industry through partnerships with local producers and feed manufacturers.
In Tunisia, the Council has established a technical hub for the Middle East and Africa through its partnership with the National Agronomic Institute of Tunisia (INAT). This collaboration has trained hundreds of professionals from across North Africa, the Middle East, and Sub-Saharan Africa on feed formulation, storage, and quality control. As a result, Tunisia imported over 12 TMT of U.S. corn gluten meal in the same crop year.
The Council's initiatives have led to significant gains for U.S. corn exports to the Maghreb region. The figure surged by 365% over the past 25 years, with Morocco and Tunisia being among the top importers.
