US Grains Council Seeks to Position US Corn Ethanol as Key SAF Feedstock in Southeast Asia
The US Grains & BioProducts Council (USGBC) has promoted U.S. corn ethanol as a key feedstock for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in Southeast Asia.
A delegation of government officials from Indonesia and Vietnam attended the MyAERO Sustainable Aviation Fuel Symposium in Malaysia, where they discussed the future of SAF development across the Asia-Pacific region.
The symposium brought together over 400 participants from more than 20 countries to discuss SAF feedstock availability. Caleb Wurth, Regional Director for Southeast Asia and Oceania at USGBC, emphasized that while hydroprocessed esters and fatty acids (HEFA) is currently the leading SAF production technology, its growth could be constrained by limited supplies of sustainable lipid feedstocks.
Ethanol, on the other hand, is a globally traded and readily available feedstock that can help bridge future SAF supply gaps. Wurth highlighted the ability of the U.S. agricultural sector to supply sustainable ethanol to meet growing international demand for aviation fuel.
