US-Iran Conflict Escalates as Oil Prices Soar and Fed Pressure Mounts

The conflict in the Middle East continues to escalate, with no diplomatic breakthrough in sight. Energy Secretary Chris Wright said that there may be no nuclear agreement with Tehran, and if Iran attempts to rebuild its nuclear capabilities, the U.S. may have to destroy them again.

This development is concerning for a world already suffering from the consequences of the war. Oil prices are rising globally due to the conflict and Ukrainian attacks on Russian refineries, with U.S. consumers facing record diesel prices.

The price of diesel in the U.S. has reached an average of $5.85 per gallon nationwide, a nearly 60% increase from last year's average price of $3.71 per gallon. John Kilduff, partner at energy hedge fund Again Capital, warned that higher diesel prices will impact Americans whether or not they drive, as everything is transported by truck.

The Trump administration is also turning up the heat on Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh ahead of the Fed's meeting on September 15. President Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent have all called for the central bank to cut rates or at least refrain from raising them.
