US-Iran Conflict Escalates as Oil Prices Surge
The United States has reignited military action against Iran, striking Larak Island on Sunday. The U.S. claims Iranian Revolutionary Guard troops were preparing to fire rockets carrying sea mines into the Strait of Hormuz from the island. Two Iranians were killed and two others wounded in the strike.
Iran retaliated by firing ballistic missiles at two U.S. air bases in Jordan, claiming they destroyed maintenance infrastructure and fighter jet deployment sites. However, Jordan said it intercepted eight missiles that entered its airspace.
The escalation has led to a surge in oil prices, with Brent crude reaching an intraday high of $91.52 a barrel on Monday. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that Iran 'never welcomes war,' but his U.S. counterparts had not 'fulfilled their commitments.'
