US-Iran Conflict Sparks Oil Price Surge as Tensions Escalate
Oil prices surged on Wednesday after a series of military strikes between the US and Iran. The conflict marked a significant escalation in the long-standing tensions between the two nations, with Brent crude futures rising by around 1% to settle at $95.63 a barrel.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that it carried out a wave of strikes against Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on Tuesday, targeting air-defense sites, radar systems, naval assets, mine-laying capabilities, and communications facilities.
In response to the US strikes, Iranian state media reported that the IRGC targeted US military positions in Jordan, Kuwait, Bahrain, Iraq, and the United Arab Emirates.
US President Donald Trump signaled that he is not interested in negotiating with Iran, stating that 'I am not trying to force Iran to the negotiating table. I like our position now much better, with near-total control of the Strait of Hormuz and their economy completely collapsing.'
