US-Iran Conflict Stalled as Energy Prices Soar Amid Ongoing Tensions
The US and Iran have been locked in a six-month conflict, with no end in sight. 'Very clearly militarily, we are stalled,' said Republican Representative Pat Harrigan of North Carolina.
The latest round of tit-for-tat military strikes has seen Iran hit merchant vessels, prompting the US to strike Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps sites used for targeting ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran fired missiles and drones on US bases in the region, including in Jordan, Kuwait, and Bahrain. The country vowed to punish Washington for a strike on a wedding ceremony in the southern city of Sirik, which killed at least four people and injured 67.
The conflict has put pressure on US President Donald Trump to end the war, with energy prices rising due to the tensions. Brent crude oil has climbed over 7% this week to $95 a barrel, while US pump prices for diesel are at a four-year high.
