US-Iran Sanctions Stall Oil Price Gains
Oil prices stabilized on Tuesday after earlier gains as markets reacted to fresh US sanctions against Iran. The new measures, which target 60 entities and individuals associated with Iran, were met with skepticism from investors who are still waiting to see how the sanctions will be enforced.
The US stopped short of imposing penalties on any particular countries or specifying when the penalties will take effect, leaving some uncertainty in the market. China, a major buyer of Iranian oil, was also not directly targeted by the new sanctions, although it has been criticized for its purchases by Washington.
Iran responded to the measures by vowing retaliation and threatening to further disrupt oil flows through the Middle East. The country had earlier indicated that it would take steps to increase tensions in the region in response to US aggression.
