US-Iran Strikes Escalate as Oil Prices Drop Amid Rising Tensions
The US and Iran continue to trade strikes as tensions between the two nations escalate. Despite this, oil prices are dropping on Thursday, with Brent crude plummeting over 1.50% to $86.68 per barrel and West Texas Intermediate falling more than 1% to above $83.60 per barrel.
Tehran has vowed to 'punish' the US after it conducted a series of strikes against Iran, including military command centers, missile and drone facilities, and coastal surveillance sites. The US stated that the strikes aimed to diminish threats posed by Iran and its proxies to American forces, commercial shipping, and neighboring Gulf countries.
The consequences of the conflict are expanding, with Egypt reporting that a drone hit two ships at its Mediterranean port of Damietta, causing a fire aboard the vessels.
