Oil prices surged on Thursday after renewed US-Iran strikes raised concerns over oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz. Brent crude rose to $97.62 a barrel, its highest level since July 27.

The latest US attacks were followed by an Iranian response involving drones and missiles targeting US bases across West Asia, as the two countries continue to contest control of the Strait of Hormuz.

Fears that the conflict could last longer than expected are growing, with US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth quietly extending troop deployments in West Asia, signaling Washington's preparation for a prolonged conflict with Iran.
