Tensions between the US and Iran have escalated in the Strait of Hormuz after Tehran claimed its forces attacked an American remotely operated military vessel. The incident follows a series of military actions between the two countries, including the disabling of three Iranian oil carriers by the US.

According to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the US vessel attempted to enter a restricted part of the Strait of Hormuz and was subsequently attacked. The IRGC presented the action as a response to what it described as an intrusion into the restricted area.

The US military command, Centcom, said that American forces carried out strikes on multiple Iranian crude oil carriers after what it described as 'multiple unprovoked' Iranian attacks on two US warships. No American service members were harmed in the Iranian attacks.
