US-Iran Tensions Fuel Surge in Global Crude Oil Prices
Global crude oil prices have surged amid escalating tensions between the United States and Iran. The price of Brent crude increased by $0.52, or 0.54%, to reach $96.80 per barrel in the international market.
The rise comes after a significant increase last week, with Brent crude rising by around 7.8% and West Texas Intermediate (WTI) climbing nearly 10%. Market sources attribute the latest surge to renewed military action between the two countries and concerns over reduced oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz.
The US Central Command reported that American forces targeted three Iranian oil tankers on Saturday, with one vessel struck near Kharg Island, a major Iranian oil export hub. Economic experts warn that further escalation in regional tensions could push global crude prices even higher, potentially affecting the global economy and increasing costs for consumers.
