US-Iran Tensions Push European Gas Prices to New High
The wholesale gas price for the European market has exceeded €70 per megawatt-hour (MWh), reaching its highest level since March. The surge is largely attributed to renewed tensions between the US and Iran, which are contributing to rising oil prices.
The October natural gas futures contract at the Title Transfer Facility (TTF) in the Netherlands rose to over €70.60 per MWh, with a five percent increase. However, by 15:15 CEST, the price eased back slightly to just below €70 per MWh.
The rising wholesale gas price is also fueling concerns over further delays to exports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the Persian Gulf. The situation highlights the interconnectedness of global energy markets and the potential for regional conflicts to impact prices worldwide.
