US-Iran Tensions Send Oil Prices Soaring to New Heights
Oil prices surged on Tuesday as tensions between the US and Iran escalated over a peace deal and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, but Asian stocks were mixed amidst protracted uncertainty over global inflation. Brent crude futures rose to $88.00 per barrel, while U.S. crude futures ticked up to $82.45, both hitting their highest levels since July 31.
Market analyst Tony Sycamore described the situation as a 'Mexican standoff', where neither side will blink first, predicting that oil prices could remain in the $75-95 range while negotiations continue.
The latest uptick in fuel costs raises the stakes for the US July consumer price report due on Wednesday, with expectations for a monthly rise of 0.1% in the headline reading and 0.2% for the core measure.
