US-Iran War Drains Nation's Coffers
The ongoing war between the USA and Iran has resulted in enormous costs of blood and treasure. Launched in February 2026, the conflict has claimed thousands of lives, including hundreds of innocent children killed by bombs dropped on their schools, homes, and playgrounds. The cost to US residents is estimated at over $200 billion, including expenses for staging troops near Iran and repairing damaged infrastructure.
The repair or rebuilding of Iranian infrastructure alone is expected to cost at least $300 billion, according to a memorandum of understanding signed by the US president in France. However, other costs are difficult to estimate, such as the damage to allied nations' oil refineries, LNG export facilities, and energy infrastructure.
Commercial vessels have also been hit, killing crew members and rendering them unable to deliver their cargo. The financial burdens imposed on other nations across the globe due to delays in essential exports are estimated to exceed $2 trillion and counting.
The war has strained relations with long-time friends and allies, with France, Italy, and Spain declining US requests to stage its war efforts from their lands. Pope Leo denounced the conflict, stating that attacks on civilian infrastructure are against international law and a sign of hatred, division, and destruction.
