US-Iran War Sends Heating Oil Prices Soaring by 31.3%

As the US-Iran war continues, heating oil prices are soaring. Marine Corps veteran Tommy Cole Jr. is worried about how he'll afford to heat his home in Massachusetts when temperatures drop. Last year, he had to rely on federal assistance several times to fill his tank and use space heaters, which sent his electric bill skyrocketing.

Cole's concerns are shared by many who heat their homes with oil. According to the National Energy Assistance Directors Association (NEADA), those using heating oil can expect a 31.3% increase in costs this winter, bringing the estimated total to $2,300 for the season. The forecast is even more dire for Americans relying on electricity and natural gas, with prices projected to rise by 8.7%, 9%, and 5.8% respectively.

Mark Wolfe, NEADA's executive director, notes that oil heat users often face a dilemma: whether to buy their heating oil now or wait until next month in the hopes of lower prices. However, this strategy may not be effective as prices can continue to rise throughout the winter.
