US Leads Global Energy Markets with Record Oil Production
The United States has become the world's largest oil producer and a key stabilizer of global energy markets. This transformation didn't happen overnight, but rather as a result of decades-long investments in oil and natural gas production.
According to the American Petroleum Institute (API), the U.S. oil and natural gas industry invests approximately $150 billion annually in upstream production alone, with billions more invested in pipelines, refineries, export terminals, and other critical infrastructure.
This sustained investment has allowed the United States to produce nearly 14 million barrels of crude oil per day, making it the largest source of new global oil supply. The country's energy system has helped cushion what could have been a more severe shock in the current disruption, despite markets remaining tight and inventories being low.
The API emphasizes that energy security is built through investments made over many years and across changing market conditions. This means companies continually reinvest in new production, refineries, pipelines, and other critical infrastructure to meet future demand.
