US LNG Abundance Can Boost Global Energy Security, EQT CEO Says
Toby Rice, CEO of EQT, believes that the era of US LNG abundance can boost global energy security. He outlined five key elements to achieve this goal: protecting America's energy advantage, extending technological leadership, providing energy security to allies and partners, eliminating poverty and empowering humanity, and creating a cleaner planet.
Rice emphasizes the importance of making energy systems bigger, rather than being drawn into a shrinking mindset amidst current geopolitical challenges. The US LNG sector has vast potential not only for the US economy but also for the world at large. Rice focuses on energy abundance, contrasting it with the US administration's goal of energy dominance.
'Global energy security is your country's energy security,' he said. 'Every country is being felt by these geopolitical events.' The US has increased its LNG exports from relatively little in 2016 to becoming the world's largest exporter. Rice aims to reach 100 bcf a day, which would provide energy security and withstand any geopolitical impact.
Rice also spoke about the potential for tertiary recovery through CO2 injection into reservoirs, which could increase energy production by 15-20%. He believes that if pure streams of CO2 can be obtained, the industry will find ways to utilize it, increasing energy production. Rice also discussed the need for carbon capture development and scalability.
Rice's vision is to bring energy abundance to developed worlds and emerging markets through his non-profit organization, Energy Corps. He envisions a future where these worlds can come together.
