US LNG Exports Surge to Record High

The rapid growth of the US liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry has transformed the global market. The US Energy Information Administration reports that exports averaged 17.4 billion cubic feet per day in the first six months of 2026, a 23% increase from the same period in 2025.

This significant expansion is attributed to the development of new terminals and expansions of existing ones, particularly along the Gulf Coast of Texas and Louisiana. The ongoing disruptions of shipments through the Strait of Hormuz and European imports of Russian natural gas ceasing have driven up prices, enabling most operators to maximize output.

US LNG exports primarily go to Europe, with major markets including the Netherlands, Italy, France, the UK, Germany, and Spain. Asia is another significant market, with US exports increasing sharply due to the lack of access to Middle Eastern producers caused by ongoing conflict.
