US LNG Supplants Russian Gas as Ukraine War Redraws Global Energy Landscape
The Ukraine war has accelerated two forms of power accumulation: US commercial-strategic leverage through LNG and finance, and Russian influence through long-duration nuclear technology and state-credit relationships.
Contrary to claims that Washington deliberately caused the war to capture European energy markets, evidence shows that the US became the dominant LNG supplier to Europe after Russian pipeline flows collapsed.
Russia lost its European hydrocarbon position but preserved and expanded its nuclear statecraft in selected emerging markets, such as Egypt, which is simultaneously a major destination for US LNG and the borrower-host of Russia's 4.8-GW El Dabaa nuclear program.
