US Military Destroys Five Iranian Oil Tankers in Retaliation for Missile Attacks
The US military has destroyed five Iranian oil tankers following missile attacks on a US Navy warship, according to Central Command. The tankers targeted were the Kivik, Charminar, Horizon 1, Riesco, and Derya.
Central Command said the crews of the five vessels were told to abandon ship before the attacks. The strikes come just three days after US forces destroyed three Iranian oil tankers after Iran's Revolutionary Guards tried to attack a US aircraft carrier and destroyer.
Iranian state television reported that at least three Iranian oil tankers near the southern port of Jask and near Kharg Island in the Persian Gulf were attacked. The crews were evacuated, according to state TV.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the US will not allow Iran's attacks to go unanswered. He stated that for every time Iran tries to hit US naval ships, they will lose tankers.
