US Military Foils Iranian Missile Attack on American Troops

The US military has thwarted an Iranian missile attack on American troops in the Middle East. In response, US Central Command said it intercepted all Iranian missiles launched against American forces, and worked with Saudi Arabia's forces to strike sites in Iraq used by Tehran-backed militias.

Iran had been experiencing a brief pause in fighting, following weeks of escalation over the strategic Strait of Hormuz, which carries 20% of the world's traded oil. The US military said it remains vigilant and at a high state of readiness, warning that further attacks on American troops or Saudi Arabia's energy infrastructure could lead to additional action.

The fighting has led to rising tensions between the US and Iran, with the US House narrowly passing a resolution last week to halt military action in Iran. The conflict is also affecting global oil prices, contributing to concerns about gasoline prices ahead of the November midterm elections.
