The US military has confirmed that it intercepted several ballistic missiles launched by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targeting American forces in the Middle East.

The IRGC fired multiple missiles from within Iranian territory at 5:45 pm Eastern Time, or 9:45 pm GMT, with the aim of striking US forces deployed across the region.

According to the military, all the incoming missiles were successfully intercepted, and there have been no reports of casualties or damage.

The incident has heightened regional tensions, causing a surge in oil prices as concerns grow over further escalation. The price of West Texas Intermediate crude futures jumped 4.4% to $82.67 per barrel following the news.
