US Military Operation Unlocks Venezuelan Oil Windfall for Chevron
A recent US military operation in Venezuela has cleared the way for a significant expansion of the country's energy sector. According to Energy Secretary Chris Wright, Chevron is expected to more than double its Venezuelan oil production by the end of 2027.
The 30-minute operation on January 3, led by US forces, captured Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Flores, marking a significant shift in the country's politics. This development has paved the way for increased investment in Venezuela's energy sector, with Chevron securing an investment of over $7 billion over five years.
Venezuela controls more than 300 billion barrels of crude reserves, roughly 20% of the world's total. Wright stated that shifting the center of global energy production toward the Western Hemisphere will put the US at the center, with major producers such as Canada, Guyana, and Mexico supplying more of the world's oil and gas.
