The United States military has struck three Iranian oil tankers in response to unprovoked attacks on US warships. The strikes were carried out by an American aircraft carrier and a destroyer, with no US personnel injured.

According to the US military, two of the tankers were 'permanently disabled' while the third was destroyed. The tankers were part of a shadow network helping to fund Iran's Revolutionary Guard and its armed proxies in the region.

The US has warned that it will 'if necessary, destroy Iran's limited and exposed oil fleet.' This comes after six months of on-again, off-again war between the two countries, which began with US and Israeli attacks on Iran on February 28.
