US Military Strikes Three Iranian Oil Tankers After Ballistic Missile Attacks
The United States military launched a targeted strike on three Iranian oil tankers in the Persian Gulf on Saturday, destroying them in response to 'unprovoked' attacks by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
The operation was carried out after the IRGC launched ballistic missiles at two US Navy warships patrolling regional waters.
'The three Iranian crude oil tankers are part of a multibillion-dollar shadow network that funds the IRGC and its regional proxies,' said the US Central Command (CENTCOM) in a statement.
CENTCOM commander Adm. Brad Cooper added, 'Let the message to the IRGC be clear: If you shoot at two of our ships, we will impose an even higher economic cost, taking out three of yours.'
