A US missile attack on an Iranian tanker near Kharg Island has been reported by Tasnim, a semi-official Iranian news agency. According to local sources, four US rockets were fired in the vicinity of the island's anchorage, but there were no injuries and the crew is being evacuated.

The incident occurred on September 5, 2026, near Iran's main oil export hub. Donald Trump had previously stated that he wants to take over Kharg Island, but later said the threat of a US military action was off the table for now.

Iran is the third-largest producer of oil in the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries and 90% of its crude exports were through Kharg Island prior to the US blockade. The attack would put further pressure on Iran's oil sector and economy, which are already suffering from the blockade.
