US Missile Strike Hits Iranian Oil Tanker Near Key Export Hub
An Iranian oil tanker was struck by US missiles near Kharg Island in the Gulf on Saturday. According to Tasnim, a semi-official news agency, four projectiles fired by US forces hit the tanker about 10 kilometers off the coast of Kharg Island.
Tasnim reported that there were no casualties and the crew is being evacuated. The incident came after recent exchanges between the US and Iran, with US forces resuming strikes on Iranian targets last week.
The escalation has affected commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, which carries one-fifth of the world's oil supply. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed that two oil tankers struck mines in the strait after attempting to use an unauthorized route, but the US military disputed this claim.
