US Natural Gas Prices Drop Amid Abundant Supply and Summer Heat
US natural gas prices have declined to $2.72 per million British thermal units as market participants balance persistent heat forecasts with abundant supply.
According to the latest EIA report, American utilities injected only 16 billion cubic feet of gas into storage over the past week, falling short of both the 19 bcf added in the corresponding week of the previous year and the 29 bcf five-year seasonal average.
Even with this below-normal build, stockpiles continue to sit above typical seasonal levels, buoyed by record output and comparatively cooler conditions earlier in the year. Production has stayed robust enough to maintain comfortable storage even amid ongoing summer heat.
The daily average feedgas volumes to the nine largest US LNG export terminals held steady at 17.2 bcfd during August, marginally under the all-time high of 17.4 bcfd set in June.
