US Naval Blockade of Iran Set for Indefinite Duration as Oil Supply Dwindles
The US is preparing to maintain a naval blockade of Iran indefinitely, according to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. The move aims to increase economic pressure on Tehran as ceasefire talks falter and global oil supply dwindles.
Hegseth stated that the US Navy could keep a presence in the region to enforce its blockade, which has caused significant economic damage to Iran. This comes after two vessels from Abu Dhabi National Oil Company were attacked while transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday evening.
The global oil supply is expected to fall by 4.3 million barrels per day this year due to the ongoing conflict in the region, according to the International Energy Agency. The US has tightened economic sanctions against Iran and other entities accused of helping it procure weapons.
