US Navy Intercepts Tanker Sailing Under False Flag, Fueling Escalating Iran Conflict
The US Navy has intercepted and boarded the product tanker Charminar as part of its efforts to curb Iranian oil exports. The ship, which is 50,000-deadweight-ton and was constructed in 2005, was found to be sailing under a false flag from the Comoros Islands.
According to TankerTrackers.com, the Charminar has been involved in transporting Iranian fuel to Yemen's Houthi rebels. The consultancy's analysis suggests that this is a significant development as it represents a major expansion of the Hormuz conflict into a new economically vulnerable area.
The US naval blockade against Iran remains fully operational, with CENTCOM reporting that 12 commercial vessels attempting to breach the blockade have been redirected, two have been disabled, and two have been boarded. The Disha, another tanker involved in transporting fuel to Houthi-controlled areas, was recently attacked by the US, highlighting the escalating tensions.
