US Oil Heads to Greece Amid War on Iran and Strait of Hormuz Disruptions
A US oil cargo has sailed to Greece for the first time in about four years due to disrupted trade flows and reduced output in the region. The cargo, consisting of WTI Midland crude, was loaded onto the tanker Eagle Helsinki at Seabrook Logistics terminal in Houston.
The tanker initially headed towards Rotterdam but changed course mid-Atlantic to head towards Gibraltar and then Greece. It is anchored near Motor Oil's refinery in Corinth, which accounts for over a third of Greece's refining capacity.
The US and Israel's war on Iran and reduced traffic through the Strait of Hormuz have led to this shift in trade flows. The tanker carried about 700,000 barrels of WTI Midland crude.
