US on Track for 30% of Global LNG Market by 2030
The US is expected to capture around 30% of the global liquefied natural gas (LNG) market by 2030, according to Peter Clarke, Senior Vice President of LNG at ExxonMobil Upstream. Speaking at an energy forum in Bangkok on September 14, Clarke noted that North America has sufficient gas resources to meet both domestic consumption and export demand.
The projection is based on the expansion of US natural gas production and the growth of LNG exports. The US Energy Information Administration (EIA) expects dry natural gas production to increase from 107.6 billion cubic feet per day (bcf/d) in 2025 to 111.7 bcf/d in 2026 and 115.9 bcf/d in 2027.
US LNG exports are also forecast to rise to 17.4 bcf/d in 2026 and 18.6 bcf/d in 2027, compared with 15.1 bcf/d in 2025. The growth is attributed in part to higher output from the Permian and Haynesville regions.
