US Overtakes Gulf Countries as India's Largest LNG Supplier

The US has become India's largest supplier of liquefied natural gas (LNG), providing 3.6 million tonnes from January to July, according to data from analytical company Kpler.

This shift in supply is largely due to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz caused by the escalating conflict between the US and Iran, which has resulted in a 60% decline in gas imports from Gulf countries like the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Kuwait.

In July alone, India imported 896,000 tonnes of LNG from the US, a 24% increase from June. This marks a four-month high for India's total LNG imports, which rose to 1.23 million tonnes in July, up 7% from the previous month.
