US Remains in Conflict with Iran Amid Ongoing Naval Escalation

US Energy Secretary Chris Wright stated that Washington remains in an active conflict with Iran, despite President Donald Trump describing the six-month confrontation as 'small potatoes.' The seven-day average of oil moving through the Strait of Hormuz has risen to slightly more than 9 million barrels per day, with regional bypass pipelines lifting total oil flows out of the Gulf region to roughly 13-14 million barrels per day.

Wright said that the US Navy's mission is broader than escorting commercial vessels and includes preventing Iranian oil and other exports from leaving the country as part of an economic pressure campaign. Iran continues to use access to Hormuz as a principal source of leverage, with Tehran planning to establish a new exclusion zone extending from the US naval blockade line toward the strait.

The Energy Secretary argued that destroying Iran's ability to develop and deliver a nuclear weapon is a valid alternative to reaching a nuclear agreement. He claimed that Iran's air force and navy have effectively been destroyed, and its ability to manufacture missiles has been severely degraded.
