US Sanctions Threaten Economic Isolation of Iran
The US has threatened severe sanctions against any country maintaining economic ties with Iran, in an effort to isolate the regime.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent called it 'Operation Economic Outcast,' comparing it to the D-day Normandy landings. He stated that the objective is to sever every economic lifeline sustaining the regime until Tehran stands alone.
Bessent emphasized that no one, including China, which bought 80% of Iran's shipped oil last year, is above US sanctions. If they facilitate transactions with Iran, they will be targeted.
The deadline for cutting ties will depend on individual circumstances, and any entity facilitating money laundering on behalf of Iran will be removed from the US dollar system.
