US Sanctions Threaten Global Oil Supplies
The Middle East crisis deepens as Iran warns that new US sanctions will be seen as a declaration of war. According to Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghai, such restrictions have no place in international law and are an attempt by America to impose its power and decisions on other countries through economic pressure.
The US administration is reportedly planning to increase economic pressure on Iran, with appeals to other countries including China to cooperate in the proposed sanctions. However, China has insisted that new sanctions will not solve the current crisis in West Asia, instead calling for a resolution through dialogue and diplomacy.
The Strait of Hormuz remains a major center of tension, with America claiming a strong hold in this region. Iran has given special permission to some Iraqi oil tankers to pass through the strait, while reports also suggest discussions between Iran and Oman regarding joint management of this waterway.
