US-Saudi Airstrikes Hit Pro-Iranian Forces in Iraq Amid Escalating Regional Tensions

Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaydi has called for an urgent security meeting following joint US-Saudi airstrikes on pro-Iranian forces in the country. The strikes, which were carried out by the US Central Command alongside Saudi Arabian Armed Forces, targeted Iran-aligned groups in Iraq after a series of drone attacks targeting Saudi energy infrastructure.

The US-Saudi strikes killed at least 10 members of Iraq's Popular Mobilisation forces and injured several others across different provinces. Iranian allies in Iraq had launched drone attacks on Saudi oil facilities just days prior to the airstrikes, causing significant damage.

The conflict has escalated tensions between Iran and its regional rivals, with Tehran denying accusations of involvement in the firing of projectiles at targets in Saudi Arabia. Yemen's Houthis have been launching attacks on Saudi infrastructure after Riyadh bombed Sanaa airport earlier this month, further straining relations.
