US, Saudi Forces Strike 'Iran-Backed' Militias in Iraq Amid Escalating Conflict

US and Saudi forces carried out airstrikes against 'Iran-backed' militias in Iraq, killing at least 20 people and wounding 32 others. The strikes targeted bases and energy infrastructure directed by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corp (IRGC), according to US Central Command.

The attacks came after the IRGC fired ballistic missiles at a US airbase in Jordan, which was intercepted and destroyed by Jordanian forces. Iran claimed this attack was in response to 'aggressive actions' by the US military.

The US and Saudi Arabia also accused Iran-backed militias of launching drone strikes targeting oil facilities in Saudi Arabia on Monday and Tuesday. The oil facilities are used to transport oil from Saudi Arabia's Eastern Region to the Red Sea port city of Yanbu, which is used to bypass the Iranian forces on the Strait of Hormuz.

The conflict has raised tensions between Iran and the US, with some commentators suggesting that Iran's attacks were preemptive strikes or an attempt to express their dissatisfaction with a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the White House.
