US and Saudi fighter jets carried out precision strikes against Iran-aligned groups in eastern Iraq on July 28, targeting weapons and logistics sites used to support militia operations. The joint operation was a response to more than 30 drone attacks launched by these groups within the past 72 hours.

CENTCOM described the groups as acting under the direction of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and warned that the IRGC and its proxies must cease their attacks to avoid further US military action. The strikes were conducted across eastern Iraq, but the precise locations of the sites targeted were not disclosed.

Saudi Arabia also reported intercepting several drones launched from Iraqi territory towards oil installations in the Eastern Region and Riyadh, blaming Iran-backed militias for the attempted cross-border attacks.
