US Sinks Iranian Oil Tanker in Escalating Strait of Hormuz Confrontation
The U.S. military's strike on Iranian oil tankers has escalated tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, threatening global energy markets.
CENTCOM said the M/T Kylo, also known as Noxen, sank after being struck Saturday by American forces, which targeted multiple points on the vessel. The tanker was reportedly unladen and its crew had been directed to abandon ship before the attack.
The strikes followed what CENTCOM described as multiple ballistic missile attacks by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps against a U.S. aircraft carrier and a guided-missile destroyer operating in regional waters. No U.S. personnel were hurt, according to the military.
The confrontation continued Sunday, with Iran saying it struck an unmanned U.S. vessel attempting to enter the Strait of Hormuz. The United States had not confirmed that claim as of the latest reports.
